The "Dock" that is available does not require any squeezing, it uses pressure to hold it in. The 'cable only' connector does require you to squeeze it out. Fortunately, if you were making your own bottom/dock, you could just remove the things that hold onto it. My idea would be to create a tray type thing, where you push the ipod into the clock, dock connector toward the engine, screen up (or down, it doesnt matter for this, only in implementation). Then, just have the other side of the dock connector (assumedly is a part of the head unit connection) exist at the engine side of this chasm. Line the surrounding box with a friction material to keep it from jumping out, and you should be all set.
